August 2011

Summer Vacation is coming to a close but that does not mean that summer is over. I sure wish we could draw out summer vacation until the last warm day was gone. There is still so much to do. I need more hikes, more time in the sun, more fun. So the rest of this month I am going to jam fun into every spare moment. And then come September I am going to launch into all kinds of events that Alive! Utah is helping to sponsor. In September you will find me at Bizzy Bee Retreat getting my self preparedness fix and then come October you will find me getting my foodie fix at the upcoming Cook and Taste event that will be featuring chefs and cooks from around Southern Utah. Also in September we will be doing makeovers on 3 moms for our October issue.

The cool part is you can join with us in all these events. But now is the time to get involved. Register for the Bizzy Bee classes at bizzybeeretreat.com, turn in your application to win a makeover before September 10th by emailing me at editor@aliveutah.com and stay tuned for our class lineup on Cook and Taste.

July 2011

As I was sitting at the Alive! Utah booth at the July Jamboree in Cedar City last week I met a woman who kept telling me how much she loved Southern Utah. "I know how you feel," I said. "That is why I started a magazine all about Southern Utah."

And it is true. I really adore Southern Utah and I especially love Southern Utah in the summer. I get to attend all kinds of theater. I get to explore new places and I get to eat all kinds of fresh food from my garden and other local gardeners. You get the picture. I could be the poster girl for Southern Utah. I love that we can experience the rugged outdoors and culture in one weekend any day of the summer.

I mean is there a better example of this than watching a live play in Tuacahn ampitheater? I just watched in a plein aire setting the desert get turned into a temporary ocean in the production of Tuacahn's A Little Mermaid.

So let us help you enjoy your summer at Alive! Utah this month.

Make sure you read the theater reviews posted throughout the month in our Applaud section.

Pamper yourself and your health by finding out more about what massage is best for you in our Vitalize section.

And get a little whimsical in your garden with our ideas for creating your own theme garden in your yard in our Live section

June 2011

It's hard to sit here and type this blog entry. The sunshine is calling me, my garden is calling me, somewhere a chance to play in the water is calling to me. I love summer. I love basking in the sun, shopping with my girls, getting my hands dirty in my veggie patch, taking my kids on adventures. If only it was always summertime.

One of the things I love best about Southern Utah is that we all know how to play hard. And come summer we are determined to do just that. So Alive! Utah brings you plenty of ways to indulge your Southern Utah playful spirit.

It is so hard for me to pick a favorite article this month. Sorry, you will just have to read them all. But I will leave a few thoughts here. I am in love with the ideas for creating a beautiful outdoor space on your patio in our Live article this month. I must have the butterfly dishes.

And I think the flatland skimboarding going on in St. George and Southern Utah is about the coolest thing ever. Too bad I am such an ungraceful person or I would be pulling tricks like the people in the skimboarding video we have posted.

I am really excited that we now have two new restaraunt reviewers that will be writing for Alive! Check out the first installment of one of our reviewers Dining in Dixie. And while you are hanging out in the taste section go see our recipes for strawberries. If I was stranded on an desert island and I had a food choice, it would definitely be strawberries.

Alive! Utah is making some changes over the next couple months. Good changes that will make our site more user friendly and we might just be getting a little facelift. Plus we have some other really fun projects and events in the work so stay tuned and come play with us.
